Spartanburg County Council on Mon approved tax breaks for electric passenger vehicle manufacturer and EV tech provider Proterra Operating Company, which is projecting a $76 one thousand thousand investment with 217 new jobs at Carolina Commerce Center in Greer.

Proterra spokesman Shane Levy said Tuesday the Greer facility represents the company's 3rd bombardment product site nationwide and showtime on the Due east Coast.

"While we're historically known every bit an electric passenger vehicle manufacturer, particularly in South Carolina where we've had operations, our company has evolved to become a diversified provider of EV tech, with our battery systems serving equally our core technology underpinning," Levy said. "We supply that technology to globe-grade automakers to electrify everything from school buses and delivery trucks to industrial equipment."

Leading the EV future

Spartanburg Canton and South Carolina are helping lead the charge in the automotive industry's motility toward electric vehicles every bit alternatives to gas-powered combustion engines.

With Monday's final approving by Canton Council, Proterra volition receive a belongings tax rate of 6%, which is lower than the standard company tax rate of 10.5%.
